Using Your Steel Building Well Into Fall

Summer might be coming to a close in a few weeks, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to close up shop if you’re running a steel building space for any reason! As the weather continues to get cooler there’s still plenty of ways that you can make the most of your steel building no matter the time of year. Our prefab buildings are more than capable of standing up to all kinds of weather conditions but there are things that you should consider as we head into the fall months to make sure your structure is still in the best shape it can possibly be. Firstly, the most obvious thing is falling leaves, branches and other debris that might cause damage to your structure in some way. It might not cause immediate damage in the form of impact since steel is an extremely durable material, but it can clog up drainage systems needed to ensure that your building does not experience flooding and moisture damage. This is especially important if you have facing or finishes made from materials that are more susceptible to water damage, since steel itself it largely resistant to it. Here are just a few of the things you can do to transition your structure into autumn and beyond.

Inspect it

While regular maintenance is not required for your buildings to stay in good shape, it is always a good idea to do regular inspections to make sure that everything is on the up & up. Check the siding, windows, doors and other openings, hinges, roofing, drainage systems and pretty much any part of your building to make sure there aren’t small damages that you’re not missing. Missing out on an inspection might mean an issue will go unnoticed that could get worse over the winter months – and will be difficult to repair until the springtime.

Clean

One of the best things you can do for your steel garage building is keep it clean. This includes both the inside and the outside. By mixing warm water and non-abrasive cleanser, you can power wash the outside of the structure to make sure all of the grime or dirt from the summer months is gone before heading into fall. It will be imperative that you make sure any electrical features on your structure are covered or protected so you don’t have to worry about them getting water damage. When it comes to the inside, the same solution can be used but used with more traditional clean methods like rags, sponges, mops and other surface cleaners to get everything under control for the upcoming season.

Change The Layout

Fall is always a good time to change things around and with the flexibility of steel buildings you have the opportunity to make the inside look however you might need it to. Thanks to our prefab structures and their open concept interiors, you can rearrange the inside to reflect a brand new use for the fall months and beyond.
